23 more to go...

So here's what I came up with for my next blanket. I think it's sweetly similar to the cute little dress. I interviewed a bright green edging, but in the end I think I like the magenta best. Check back for more photos...

Here is a photo of the wrong side:

These photos are for Tiffini:

  1. This daisy is a lovely granny square; are the petals made of the crocodile stitch? I would like to make one for my daughter. Is that in a pattern book somewhere? Thanks, Donna

    1. Hi Donna, Thanks for stopping by. This flower was part of a motif from a book called "Beyond the Square: Crochet Motifs". It's a great book full of fun and unique squares and motifs (I think I got mine used on Amazon). They also use amazing colors in the photos. I highly recommend.

  2. Oh, Laura, thanks for the fast reply. I went looking online and my library was able to get the book through the cooperative from another nearby town. I made one of the flower squares tonight, but I'm not thrilled with the underside made from those directions as I worked the square; it left too much of a valley/space on the rear. I'm thinking I'll likely make the flower, then stitch it onto a granny square, or I'll fiddle around and figure out a different way to create the granny around it. I used worsted and a G hook. I'll figure it out...:)

You do beautiful work, and you have a great sense for colors. Thanks again, Donna

  3. Does your underside look like the flower is literally 3 dimensionally popping off the granny? I don't think I'll be making this because the underside per the directions in the book leave the flower in a valley on my square. Its weird to me. Your petals look so nice and tight to the granny square. Could you post a photo of the underside? Did you work it exactly like the book?

    1. Hi Donna, I'm working on a couple of these blankets right now, so I took a photo of the wrong side and posted it to this entry. They do call it the wrong side for a reason, but I don't think it's terrible, just not as pretty as the front. You could always try making the flowers and sewing them onto a granny square. I do my squares differently than the book - I use a simple granny background. I just prefer it this way.

  4. Laura, thank you for taking the time to post the photo. You are so very nice.

Yea, the backs look a bit 3-dimensional, but your's do lay nicely flat from the upside.

I do my grannies differently, in that they are reversible after each round. I start with a chain 5 in each corner and then work 3dc and when I come back around I finish off with 2dc and a slip stitch into the initial ch5, flip it and start again. Its fabulous (in my opinion). I was taught that way in the 70s and I've always preferred it when given the option (back looks just as good as the front), and its wonderful when not changing colors.

I'm glad to see your reverse; I know I did it properly. Since your flowers lay beautifully on your full blanket, I'm encouraged.

Lately been working on other things; will have to pick this back up.

    1. Hi Tiffini, I posted some photos for you to this entry showing how to slip st into the last dc. That's how you "anchor" your chain 6. I hope this helps!

    2. Thank you so very much! Thanks to your photos I figured out what to do - and although I think I need a bit more practice to help my chain 6's to be a bit more consistent - but give me a week of bedrest (oh what do you know I have it!) and I should have this done hehe ! Thanks again!

  6. These are beautiful. What kind of yarn do you use?

    1. I use whatever I can get my hands on :) However, in this blanket I used Caron's One Pound for the white, pink and yellow. The bright magenta edge is Red Heart's "shocking pink".
